FG Pledges To Sustain Peace

VICE President Namadi Sambo has restated the determination of the Federal Government to restore peace in Borno State.
Sambo stated this Saturday at the State’s government house, Maiduguri, when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Kashim Shettima.
The Vice President, in a statement, acknowledged the gradual return to normalcy in the state, while commending the commitment of the Shettima administration to peace building

“Borno State is noted for tranquility and peaceful co-existence. We are glad to note that life is gradually returning to normalcy.  I want to seize this opportunity to inform you that we hold our brothers and sisters in Borno State with high esteem,” Sambo said.
He commiserated with those who were affected by last year’s flooding in the State.
He continued: “With the current efforts of the government and good people of Borno to broker peace and ensure peaceful co-existence, I assure you that the Federal Government is consulting on the best approach to sustaining peace.  We are happy with this development and we are glad that the cease-fire offer is coming at a time when all hands are on deck to address the security challenges.”
Sambo urged residents of the state to continue to support the Jonathan administration in its effort to deliver on the Transformation Agenda.
He enumerated several projects being executed by the administration to improve the socio-economic the people. He listed power supply, agriculture, transportation and education as areas the government is focusing on.

Shettima, who was excited about the visit, commended efforts taken by the federal government to restore peace in the state. He attributed the insecurity challenges in the state to poverty.
He acknowledged the Vice President’s support to Jonathan in realising his Transformation Agenda.
Vice President was at the Palace of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, where he commended his peace initiatives. He also commiserated with him over the unfortunate attempt on his life. He assured the Shehu that the Federal Government was solidly behind the state.
In his remarks, the Shehu expressed delight over the VP’s visit. He also called on government to expedite action in the areas of oil exploration, road construction, agriculture, desertification and federal appointments for Borno indigenes.
