The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching
Hospital University (NAUTH) Nnewi has appointed Dr Anthony Igwegbe as
its acting Chief Medical Director (CMD).
Igwegbe was the former Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the hospital until his appointment.
The appointment coincides with the performance of the first know joint replacement surgery by the teaching hospital.
NAUTH, in November 2012, performed its first successful Hip Replacement Surgery with three patients
The immediate past CMD of the hospital,
Prof. Robinson Ofiaeli, an orthopedic Surgeon and a Senior Consultant
from Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh Deli India, Dr Subhash Jangid, led
the team of doctors from NAUTH that carried out the surgery.
The Acting CMD said the hospital is
committed to becoming the best teaching hospital in the country, stating
it has sent some consultants to India for better knowledge.
According to him: “The hospital has
acquired a lot of equipment with its internally generated revenue to
carry out different types of surgeries”.
Igwegbe also promised NAUTH will utilise
the VAMED equipment worth over N2 billion received from the Federal
Ministry of Health judiciously.
